About

I’m Lewis Maxwell. Protection is all I advise on.

I’m a self-employed adviser at The Finance Seer Ltd. Protection is the only thing I arrange: life insurance, critical illness cover, income protection and business protection. No mortgages, no investments, no cross-selling. Just cover, done properly.

Why I do this

In 2011, when I was 17, my mum died unexpectedly. She was 35. There were two of us kids, and there was no financial protection in place at all.

I moved in with my nana. We sold my mum’s belongings to pay for her funeral, and it was a few years before we could afford to put a headstone on her grave.

I don’t tell people that to frighten them into buying something. Losing her is what mattered. The money was just the thing that made an already unbearable year harder than it needed to be. But it is why I ended up doing this job, and why protection is the only thing I advise on. If the worst ever happens to a family I’ve advised, I want the money to be the one part they don’t have to think about.

I’m married now, with two children and a dog. When I’m working out what a family needs, I’m thinking about mine at the same time.

My background

I’ve been in insurance for 12 years now, and I’ve seen it from both sides, inside an insurer and then advising directly. Most advisers have only ever worked the selling side of protection. Having sat on the other side of the desk means I understand how underwriting decisions get made and how a claim actually gets assessed, not just how a policy gets sold.

In that time I’ve arranged cover for hundreds of families and businesses. Business protection is where I spend most of my time, mostly relevant life policies, key person cover and shareholder protection. The tax treatment around it is usually the part directors find hardest to get their head round. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change in the future. If that’s you, it’s worth reading how business protection works or just asking me directly.

None of that counts for much if I don’t listen properly, so that’s where every conversation starts, with your situation, not a product I’m trying to place.

What “self-employed adviser at The Finance Seer Ltd” means for you

The footer of every page on this site carries a regulatory disclosure, because it has to. In plain English, here’s what it means. The Finance Seer Ltdis the firm authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. I’m self-employed and I operate under that authorisation, which is how protection advice in the UK is allowed to work.

For you, practically, it means the advice you get is regulated advice with the protections that come with that, but the person you deal with is me, directly, start to finish. Not a call centre, not a team, not someone else picking up your file once the paperwork’s signed.

How I work

Straightforward, and no disappearing act.

01

One conversation

We talk about your circumstances: income, dependants, debts, what you're actually trying to protect. No script, no pressure.

02

I do the comparing

I go through the insurers I work with and come back with options that fit, explained in plain English rather than jargon.

03

I stay the point of contact

Once you're covered, I don't disappear. If your circumstances change, or if your family ever needs to make a claim, you come back to me.

How I’m paid

My commission is funded by the insurer if you decide to go ahead with a policy, and it doesn't change what you pay.
